Hearts of plastic

I thought maybe time could heal the wounds of looking at this one. I was wrong.

Unlike most of the blogosphere, I find these shoes difficult to admire. Vivienne Westwood Anglomania has collaborated with Australian shoe store Melissa back in 2009 to create these (the collaboration lasts from 2008-2012). It has been labeled “adorable,” cute” and even ” indie pop princess cute!

Fortunately, someone has come to their senses: “not down with the plastic…i lived jelly shoes in the 80s and they were definitely not 149 bucks then…gonna go out on a limb and suggest the love people have for these is actually love for vivienne westwood not the actual shoe…i mean if these were by payless for example methinx they’d sit on the shelves and gather dust as well as the scorn of passing shoppers“. Yes, what people go through for designer. Oh, designer! Oops, I forgot to mention they were $149? And made from injected thermoplastic? Mhhm, that would sound pretty cool if someone asked you what your shoes were made out of. “Injected thermoplastic, no less!” Which kinda sounds like some sort of warm plastic surgery you inject.

Here are runway photos from Vivienne Westwood featuring the “Lady Dragon” heels.

I don’t understand why they would be named “Lady Dragon“s if they were so darn cute!

One of my fave supermodels, Aggy Deyn, has graced the first cover of Plastic Dreams Magazine. Yes, Melissa shoes even has it’s own magazine. Kate Moss is equally stunning on a following cover wearing a pair of black plastic buckled pumps from the Vivienne Westwood collection.

Dita Von Teese dons dreamy heels from Jean Paul Gaultier’s collaboration with Melissa on yet another Plastic cover.

Oh how dreammyyy… My only concern is how stable a plastic stiletto can be. And what happens when you walk outside on a hot day with them. And what happens when a jealous frenemy attacks your heels with a pair of scissors. That’s $260 gone to waste!

Wow, even Katy Perry became a Lady Dragon.

Katy is a genius for wearing tacky things and looking good in them… Well actually I can’t decide if this is tacky tasteful or tacky Dollaramy.

Here is a screenshot from Melissa’s Vivienne Westwood designer collaboration shoes page. The hearts are beside shoes I’d love to wear, but beware the ones crossed out in red.

The “VW Mini Melissa” (lower left corner) definitely “takes baby shoes to a whole new level”! They are a Croc’s stylish distant cousin. Wait…WHO WOULD PAY $105 for baby shoes?! Oh but they are “infused of course with melissa’s sweet bubble gum scent…” HONESTLY?!

More pics from Melissa’s site:

Flats or as Melissa calls them- "flatties." Is that an Australian thing?

OhMyGoodnessGraciousMe IS THAT MY GRAD SKIRT ABOVE?!

Heels and ANEMONE LIGHTS!

I’m starting to like Melissa’s shoes…that’s Melissa’s shoes in general not that unspeakable disgrace with plastic hearts. They have nice accessories too!

Spektra Miniaudiere lucite clutch with Spektra Neckpeice

Scratch that, MIND-BLOWING accessories! I can picture Athena or Aphrodite fighting over these. And that’s one innovative mannequin.

Oval Facet Pendant Neck

Large oval lucite form with Preciosa Czech crystal centrepiece on a metal snake chain. They are so hot, hot, hot! Especially hot is how the green crystal catches the light.

Hey remember these? (I’m getting totally off topic now.)

Often imitated in mall stores are these “Coral” flats designed by Edson Matsuo. Haven’t you seen them everywhere?

Pinch me, am I dreaming!?!-

“Acqua” flats in Teal Translucent also designed by Edson Matsuo! EXCLAMATION MARK!!! The foot bed looks foamy-comfy, the toe strap looks like stretchy-candy and the “coral” design foot strap is just plain heavenly. And the colour! Oh the soft, aquatic aquamarine. Wait, It doesn’t come in my size?!

Hey look at what else I found on the site:

I’m not surprised Barbie looks brain-dead.

Hi! I really like your blog! I can’t get behind the whole plastic shoe trend. For one, they give me blisters. And two, I feel like plastic shoes venture a little too close into Croc territory for my liking.

Hey, I loved reading that you know. Aside from saying some of my thoughts out loud I also adore you for pointing out the gorgeous clutch and accessories.

The Link exchange links appear in my left sidebar. It’s not that big of a section yet because many people do not seem to be getting what it’s benefit is, but I just added you. Would really appreciate being linked back.

BTW if you’re in Toronto and interested about fashion, the topic of my latest post might have been of interest to you. I’m serious. :)

  3. I’m with you. I can’t do the plastic shoe thing. They are so not cute and may possibly feel horrendous (or just incite memories of plastic shoes that felt horrendous).

To a certain degree I agree with you, however, I think they would have a good cliantelle if they were a new line of Crocs. I do think that the price is insane, but they are amazing for people who can rock that style and have the money, like Katy Perry.
As to the last “barbie” picture, I think u know my opinion! ahhahhaah aliens…

Those are the most horrible shoes I´ve ever seen… well maybe not, but one of the most… :P
